“Giving voice to characters that have no other voice—that’s the great worth of what we do.” -Meryl Streep
I was born Ashley Rose in Denver, CO, but I don’t remember much about the mile-high city as my parents and I moved to the Los Angeles area when I was three years old. My parents divorced soon after.
I had a bit of an eclectic childhood. Life with my mother was pretty normal, we lived in an apartment in Redondo Beach where almost all of our neighbors were single moms with kids my age. During breaks from school, I would visit my dad in New Mexico where he bought seventeen acres of land in the middle of nowhere, opened his own bakery and built a house made out of hay-bales run completely off of solar power. I spent my time there running around our land in a dress and my Minnetonka moccasins with my dog Sheila, climbing rocks and tracking mountain lions. To date, I’ve seen three mountain lions.
I was an extremely shy child but I always had a lot of friends. Like most children, I had an active imagination. I loved to read and would turn the books into movies in my head, with me as the leading lady. I wanted to be a famous actress, but I didn’t yet have the courage to express my desire to anyone, not even my parents or my closest friends. So, I kept this dream close to my heart. I took my first acting class my freshman year of college. That’s when I learned that I actually had talent and that knowledge gave me the courage to pursue it. I acted in plays and short films, and honed my skills at various prestigious acting studios in Los Angeles. It hasn’t been an easy road. I recently relocated to the Midwest where I live in a tiny home on a farm. Now that I'm more centrally located, it's easy for me to get to the main acting markets of Chicago, Atlanta, and New York. And of course I'll always have a home base in Los Angeles.
The short film I recently starred in, Table for Two, is an official selection at the Richmond International Film Festival 2020. It also won Best Original Film at the Poe Film Festival 2019, Best International Short Film at the Polish International Film Festival and the Diamond Award at the California Film Awards! I also just finished writing a short script of my own based on a true story that I hope to be producing soon!
